Quotes

Stephen Hawking

Any irregularities in the universe would simply have been smoothed out by the expansion, as the winkles in a balloon are smoothed away when you blow it up. Thus the present smooth and uniform state of the universe could have evolved from many different non-uniform initial states.

p.165~166 Chp8 The Illustrated, A Brief History of Time

Jane Goodall

If a fixed area is occupied by one or more individuals we may talk about a home range. Any part (of all) of this overal range that is defended against other conspecifics, or even against individuals of other species, is a territory.

p.525 Chp17

The Chimpanzee, of Gombe

Florence Nightingale

For what is Mysticism? Is it not the attempt to draw near to God, not by rites or ceremonies, but by inward disposition? Is it not merely a hard word for 'The Kingdom of Heaven is within'? Heaven is neither a place nor a time. [1873]

Overview
As you can see the architecture itself is a piece of artwork.

The 'bridge' stairs

Above ground studio

Above ground exhibition room
The spiral stair gets smaller as it goes up, it represents 'abyss' since you feel like walking up to the space. The uneven located cubes not only provide platforms for holding the artworks, but also help to create a sense of fancy, anti-gravity & abyss. So are the glass screens and metal poles having this functions. (inspired by Patricia Piccinini)

Below ground exhibition hall
Both the below ground exhibition hall and studio are round in shape. And it is like being protected by the circular screens 'maze' that hold the artworks. Circle gives a feeling of fullness, firm, and reliable. The natural 'hanging bridge' staircases, the carpet and its pattern, all these elements that being used offer you a feeling of warm and comfort. You can feel yourself settle well if u sit on the couch in middle of the exhibition hall. So that this whole below ground structure represents 'settle'. (inspired by Sidney Nolan)

Artworks

Patricia Piccinini

Unbreaking Eggs – Radial

The above sculpture is created by Patricia Piccinini. The texture of it looks really realistic just like a real wheel. The rim and the tire used should be taken “off the shelf”. Although that funny shaped object looks so much like the same material as the tire (rubber or silicon), but it is actually made of fiberglass. The tire and the creature (or whatever) that lies on top blend together perfectly; I believe it is done by a thick layer of automotive paint. If look at it carefully, you can see the veins on the tire get smoother and less obvious as it get closed to the creature. This can be evidence that a similar colored paint have been used to cover up the joint between the tire and the creature, in order produce this illusion.

Sidney Nolan

CENTRAL AUSTRALIA

This painting is done by Sidney Nolan in 1950 using oil paints on canvas. I am not that advance on painting, but within my basic knowledge, she should have painted the sky first since the mountain range has darker color. Only two main colors are being used, but the painting is nowhere dull. I agree that Nolan is an expert on mixing the color as she could express every gradation in every corner of the mountain, which makes them looks so 3-dimensional instead of on a plane surface. The mountains really standout because it possesses 4/5 of the whole painting which gives audience a sense that Australia is massive. Also, the oil paint leaves an uneven and glossy surface, which matches the roughness of the mountains range.
